I believe that each of us is naturally creative, resourceful and whole. It is my mission to help you tap into your unique strengths. Those of us who live with ADHD can often feel like our struggles define us. I would like to propose that they could hold possibility. Many challenges contain, within them, their solution. That is where creativity and resourcefulness come in to play.
At an early age, I knew I wanted to be a therapist. It is common for people with ADHD to feel like they live in the margins of what is considered normal. I felt like the Ugly Duckling in my own family. By this I mean, that I felt a bit wild and a bit of an outcast. In essence, I knew something was different about me and that my family didn’t know how to mentor this spirit in me I have come to understand that the feeling of not belonging, like the Ugly Duckling, is a very common feeling for us “ADHD’ers!”
Over these forty years, I have studied with people who have had a great influence over what I do and how I bring their therapeutic artistry to the people I work with today. Arnold Mindell, Ph.D, founder of Process Oriented Psychology has significantly influenced my work. Mindell blends his scientific curiosity with his Jungian work. He has taught me to see the dreaming process not only in my sleep, but in my family system, my relationships, synchronicities, body symptoms and in community and in the climate of our world, both the physical and the political. Another person who has been significant in my life is Matt Modrcin, Ph.D, with whom I trained for 17 years. He was a therapist, mentor and teacher in couples and family therapy as well as group therapy. Add something here about neuroscience and attachment therapy.
At the age of 17, I started to work with children and haven’t stopped. I worked as a Preschool teacher, a Waldorf Kindergarten teacher and then in an elementary school for 21 years as the Child Development Specialist. I have taught parenting classes and have been trained to combine the neurosciences with psychology and mindfulness practices. Currently, I am training with Laurie Dupar at the iACT center where I will receive my Certification in ADHD Life Coaching. I do work with all ages and have found that I want to reach out to people of all ages to show them, like the Ugly Duckling, who saw the swans flying above and felt their beauty and elegance, that there is a place where we belong and can thrive in spite of the struggle with trauma, ADHD, anxiety, depression, grief, and parenting. I have advanced training in couples therapy and am experienced in working with the tools of neuroscience and attachment theory to address all of the issues I have mentioned.
I take great comfort and refuge in this statement - “I believe we are all naturally resourceful, creative and whole”- and it is my hope that I can help you, like the ugly duckling, transform into the swan you really are. Or, like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, support you in finding your way back home to yourself, knowing that the answers toward wholeness and healing are really within. I am here to be a catalyst toward that end.
